The olive tree is a fundamental element for our company
FROM IT WE PRODUCE OUR EVO OILS
The olive tree, entered in mythological tales from the earliest hour, has symbolized peace and man’s ability to cultivate the land for millennia.
Great authors like Homer often recall it in their works, as in the fifth canto of the Odyssey: after leaving the island of Calypso to continue the journey homeward, Ulysses runs into a furious storm created by Poseidon. Forced to look for a landing place, although he risks to hit the rocks of the nearby coast, he enters the mouth of a river: after some uncertainties, he decides to hide in the wood among the branches of shrubs and olive trees, where, covered by leaves, finally sleeps.
The olive tree is the founding element for our company: we produce our EVO oils from it, in full respect of the productive and natural cycles, testifying how the cultivation of plants according to tradition is, even today, a symbol of quality and genuineness.
Our lands, within the Hypogeum Geopark of the Alto Crotonese , are located in an area characterized by geological, geomorphological, biological and historical peculiarities that make the territory unique: thanks to these particular conditions, the impact of human activity was limited, the place has retained its original characteristics.
Environment and landscape
VALLE DEL LESE HAS ANCIENT AND DEEP ROOTS
In this environment of great naturalistic and landscape value, in which the Mediterranean vegetation best expresses its characteristics, our company extends with 16 hectares of olive groves, located at an average altitude of 500m asl.
The cultivation of the olive tree in the Lese valley has ancient and deep roots: archaeological evidence dating back to the 7th and 6th centuries b.C places it at the time of Magna Graecia.
The olive tree was considered a symbol of wealth, portrayied on the first coins minted in ancient Kroton, an important city of Magna Graecia, testifying its great consideration among peoples of the time.
The development of cultivation with the introduction of more developed techniques took place in the following centuries, thanks to Basilian monks’ work , arrived from the Hellenic East, who settled down in this territory at the end of the 6th century a.D.
The olive tree and olive oil have always characterized the Crotone marquisate and its history, becoming a characteristic of the Calabrian landscape.
The extra virgin olive oil we obtain in this area is not just a food: its economic value is intertwined with a strong historical and social value. We produce our extra virgin olive oil organically, cultivating the olive trees with specific agronomic and cultural techniques, maintaining a balance between soil, culture, environment.
Biological agriculture
HEALTHY FOOD AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
This way of olive culture has been part of our company since the beginning and respects the methods of modern organic farming, to which Casale Scola has joined without hesitation.
We aim to offer the consumer an organic DOP extra virgin oil of the highest quality, genuine and free of chemicals, reducing as much as possible the environmental impact of agricultural activity and making sure that the land is cultivated in full compliance with its natural cycles and eco-sustainability.
We want to satisfy consumers’ needs of a healthy diet and, at the same time, to protect the environment, as well as the cultural values of peasant civility.
Our PDO extra virgin olive oil from organic farming is the result of the symbiosis between health protection and tradition, testifying that the relationship between man and nature can be constructive.
